Mrs Phyllis Reiss created the garden between 1933-1961 around the 17th century manor house. Small pools, varied borders and secluded lawns are enclosed by mellow brick walls and high hedges, in the Hidcote tradition. There is also an attractive kitchen garden.
Prior Park Landscape Garden, Bath, Somerset
This beautiful 18th century landscape garden is set in a sweeping valley with magnificent views over the city of Bath.
Prior Park was created by local entrepreneur Ralph Allen with the advice of the poet Alexander Pope and Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. It is a haven of peace and tranquillity and offers an enjoyable an invigorating one mile walk (steep in places).

One of the most impressive 16th century houses in Somerset, Barrington Court was the first large house to be acquired by the National Trust, in 1907.
Once the home of medieval herbalist Henry Lyte, this late medieval manor house is surrounded by a garden which is an enchanting mixture of formality and simplicity.
The house adorned with elegant chimneys, carved parapets and other Renaissance features, includes contemporary plasterwork, chimney-pieces and heraldic glass.
