Built circa 1739 of rendered local stone under an almost pyramidal hipped slate roof, this substantial inn, sitting next to the coast road from West Bay to Abbotsbury and Weymouth, has been providing sustenance to visitors and locals for over 260 years.

We offer a wide range of 10 or more real ales, locally produced cider and a selection of bottled beers and wines from around the world. The food at the Halfway House is good simple filling food. At lunchtime we serve sandwiches, sausages and mash, jacket potatoes, thick homemade soup with crusty bread, traditional ploughmans lunches as well as an ever-changing range of seasonal specials.

Drop into Yearlstone Vineyard in Mid Devon close to the famous C18th Bickleigh Mill and have a bite to eat while sampling fantastic wines. Head across to the ancient monastic Crediton to Down St Mary Vineyard for a fizz that is every bit as classy as Champagne. To the east are the small vineyards of Willhayne and Highcroft also producing very good wines. Near Exeter is Manstree Vineyard where you can pick up a bottle of great wine and in season pick your own soft fruit.
