Avebury World Heritage Site, Avebury, Marlborough, Wiltshire
Avebury Henge is thought to have been constructed in Neolithic times around 2500 BC. It consists of an impressively large stone circle surrounded by a deep ditch and a bank. Avebury is not as well known as the iconic Stonehenge and consequently less visited.
At Avebury it is still possible to walk among the stones and sense the unique, enigmatic atmosphere of the prehistoric site. Another unique aspect of the site is that the stone circle contains within it much of the village of Avebury.
Once the home of medieval herbalist Henry Lyte, this late medieval manor house is surrounded by a garden which is an enchanting mixture of formality and simplicity.
Clouds Hill, Wareham, Dorset
An isolated cottage in the heart of Dorset bought by Lawrence of Arabia as a retreat.
T E Lawrence was bitterly disappointed by the failure of his political campaign to advance the Arab cause. He was exhausted by wearisome years of war and politics. Hounded by the press he joined the RAF under an assumed name but was soon discovered by the press and discharged.
Families enjoy and return time after time to this all encompassing farm attraction. Something different and entertaining for the whole family from one to ninety-one.
