Mrs Phyllis Reiss created the garden between 1933-1961 around the 17th century manor house. Small pools, varied borders and secluded lawns are enclosed by mellow brick walls and high hedges, in the Hidcote tradition. There is also an attractive kitchen garden.

The plants were carefully chosen to provide exciting combinations of colour and scent throughout the season. Plants with unusual form and texture are used boldly, and combined in unusual ways, such as putting Dutch irises with Darwin tulips.

Mrs Reiss created a peaceful garden where people could sit and relax. Garden seats are placed where visitors can appreciate the complex effects she created. The use of water throughout the garden also has a peaceful and calming effect.
