Once the home of medieval herbalist Henry Lyte, this late medieval manor house is surrounded by a garden which is an enchanting mixture of formality and simplicity.

The Great Hall, dating from the 15th century, with its Tudor stained glass and big oak Tudor table, was used as a cider cellar when the house fell into disrepair. In 1907, the manor was bought by Sir Walter Jenner who rescued it from dereliction. The interiors were refurnished in period style.

The main approach to the garden is dominated by the Twelve Apostles – stunning clipped domes of yew. The border along the South Front is stocked with species of plants cultivated when Henry Lyte published his translation of ‘Niewe Herball’ in 1578.
