An enchanting formal garden, influenced by Gertrude Jekyll.

  • Impressive Tudor manor house
  • Formal gardens influenced by Gertrude Jekyll and laid out in a series of walled ‘rooms’
  • Working kitchen garden with produce used in the Strode House restaurant

One of the most impressive 16th century houses in Somerset, Barrington Court was the first large house to be acquired by the National Trust, in 1907.

The manor house was restored in the 1920s by the Lyle family. It is currently let to Stuart Interiors as showrooms with antique and reproduction furniture for sale, offering visitors a different kind of visit.

The garden design was influenced by Gertrude Jekyll and laid out in a series of walled ‘rooms’, including the White Garden, and the Lily Garden. The working kitchen garden has espaliered apple, pear and plum trees trained along high stone walls. In season, produce from the kitchen garden is used in the Strode House Restaurant.
