Kelmscott Manor, a Grade 1 listed Tudor farmhouse adjacent to the River Thames, was the country home of William Morris - poet, craftsman and socialist.

William Morris chose Kelmscott Manor as his summer home in 1871. Morris loved the Manor, a “dear, sweet old place,” which he described as having “grown up out of the soil.” Its beautiful gardens with barns, dovecote, a meadow and stream provided a constant source of inspiration.

Perhaps the most evocative of all the houses associated with Morris, Kelmscott Manor contains an outstanding collection of the possessions and work of Morris, his family and associates - including furniture, original textiles, pictures, carpets and ceramics. Visitors can enjoy lunch, afternoon tea and other refreshments at our restaurant and purchase a wide range of merchandise inspired by Morris’ designs from the Manor’s shop.

“…helpful and informative stewards in the house, a delicious lunch, an attractive and enticing shop – in fact everything was excellent”. Sheelagh Greentree, The National Trust, West Surrey Centre
