This C12th priory has carved oak beams, plank & muntin screens, open fires & beautiful gardens overlooking the village pond. The bedrooms reflect the early medieval period with 2 refurbished en-suite double rooms. Furnished, to a high standard with antiques & high quality reproduction furniture.

  • Stay at a 900 year old Priory in wonderful surroundings
  • Dating from 1154 when it housed an assembly of Augustine monks
  • Expect excellent hospitality, tranquillity, and beauty

The gardens are being redesigned to incorporate medieval cloisters in the area close to the house, the plants within this area will be chosen to represent those which were introduced to this country during the period, 1154-1538, alongside native plants which were being cultivated at this time.

There will be a textile garden, to include plants used for fibre, dyes, tools and design, a potager with raised beds for vegetables, an orchard, with old varieties of fruit. A Shakespeare garden to represent the C16th, a Tradescant garden to represent the C17th and native planting around the village pond and along the properties borders.

We aim to live up to the Old English phrase, ‘Luffenlic Stede’, meaning a lovely place.
